Prefer Plesk? We’ve got that, too!

Friday, March 27th, 2009

It’s been nearly a week since we’ve migrated the Chicago 1 Plesk server to our primary (Gigenet) datacenter. The migration has allowed us to upgrade the hardware on the server to our current standard:

  • Intel Quad Core Processorsplesk
  • At least 4GB DDR2 RAM
  • RAID10 Redundancy & Performance
  • More advanced backup architecture
  • and much more!

If you can’t quite scrounge up the cash for one of our ultra fast LiteSpeed plans, you can still get yourself an undersold account on our Plesk server with hefty discount to boot! You won’t find any links to order these plans on our site, but send an email over to sales@precisioneffect.com and we’ll be sure to hook you up.

We’d also like to congratulate our previous server for 408 days of pure and uninterrupted connectivity. We wish it well in its next life! :)

magento_logoGood news for all you E-Commerce people out there: Magento is 100% compatible with our new LiteSpeed high performance hosting plans.

Installation was an absolute breeze and no special settings or hacks were required to get it working. Simply create the database in PrecisionPanel and visit the install.php page in your browser and you’re on the path to a working Magento installation. It took us about three minutes to go from a zip file to this:

UPDATE: Magento can also be installed using our script installer, Installatron. It will make the database for you, install Magento, and allow for very easy upgrades in the future.

The All New Precision Effect Blog

Welcome to the all new Precision Effect blog. This will serve as an official source for most company news, announcements, hosting tutorials, and anything in between. We’re hoping to update the blog at least once per week with information at least some of you will find useful, whether it be new service updates or step-by-step guides to get the most out of your hosting account.

We’ve had many people ask about our new high performance LiteSpeed hosting plans and why we decided to drop failover. In short, failover is expensive. Without greatly increasing the cost of our plans, there was no way to continue offering it. Instead of raising prices in a time of economic recession, we’ve decided to switch our focus a bit.

With our new high performance LiteSpeed environment, we’ve increased the storage and data transfer available on every plan. We were able to lower our prices around $1-$2 per month from the previous (failover) cost. We’ve also raised the amount of domains you can host with us from 1 up to a maximum of 8. We feel that the new quotas will help our customers further develop their websites and businesses.

However, with the hosting market as saturated as it is, raising quotas is simply not enough. We’ve always made a commitment to stay ahead of the game and we’re doing it again with our new LiteSpeed plans. In addition to using LiteSpeed in place of Apache, we’ve thrown together a machine with better processors, more RAM, faster hard drives, and a RAID 10 setup for both speed and redundancy. This is what the first customer to get an account on the new server had to say:

“I have hosted on many many servers and I think I can honestly say this is the fastest setup I have ever seen. Its almost like the pages are cached…”

We hope to have some benchmarks up shortly so stay tuned…

P.S. – This blog is powered by our LiteSpeed hosting plans. How fast did it load for you? Leave us a comment.
